The course will give you the skills required for supervising monitoring and ensuring safe lift truck practices are in place and knowledge of PUWER regulations concerning lift trucks.

Container Loading
Depending on the candidate’s previous experience the course duration is either a half or full day course. The general content is as follows:
Vehicle loading Refresher Course
INTRODUCTION
This course aims reinforce the correct methods of loading and unloading End loaded trailers. Also to give an understanding of the problems associated with vehicle loading and load stability with reference to: Department of Transport Code of Practice “ Safety of Loads on vehicles”
Guidance is also given on loading patterns and combinations of different pallet sizes and weights. Problems associated with full loads and part loads, load restraint principles, use of packing materials, axle weight considerations, vehicle stability etc.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, delegates should be able to:

Demonstrate how to load and unload trailers correctly and appreciate the damage and risks that can occur from not following correct procedures.

Successfully pass the practical and theoretical assessments.

Have a better understanding of the principles associated with load patterns, restraints and the use of packing materials.

A good knowledge of carrying out risk assessments on lorry loading activities

This course gives guidance to the related 1998 LOLER & PUWER Regulations
Training content
Theory – Responsibilities, Permits, Code of Practice, lifting tackle identification, pre-shift checks.
Practical – Lifting gear inspection process, safe usage, appropriate slinging methods lifting and turning loads signalling, stowage.
